It is uncertain if such were spoken by Buddha? It could have well been some one elses words. It Buddha truly spoke such, it is also uncertain if he was trying to speak the real, or it might of been his belief?
From personal knowledge seeking and deep meditating on those teachings of Buddha, that of early shamans, and of Tao, it seems Buddha was close to the real. It may just be that he knew, and others just misunderstood what he was trying to teach. For many are attached to logic, which does not give wisdom. As for the belief of not being more than one god by advance seekers? There is one Creator, but of many. Keep seeking.
